Microsoft, aka MSN, may be getting a little desperate in its search engine battle with Google and Yahoo (note: Of the big three, Microsoft is last).
On Wednesday, Microsoft released a new program called SearchPerks. Basically, the more you search (using Live Search), the more rewards - or points - you earn.
Points add up and can later be cashed in for rewards such as music downloads, airline miles, etc.
Here's the catch - and you just knew there was a catch, right?
- You must have - and use - Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher. That means you can't use Firefox or Chrome for this promotion (Ugh).
- When you sign up, you have download a code which will give you a Perk Counter on your desktop. (Ugh).
- You can sign up now and earn points through April 15, 2009. You can't cash in points until April 16, 2009 (Ugh).
- You can only sign up through the end of the year (Ugh) or until the program reaches 250,000 (Ugh).
Microsoft says it all goes well, they may extend the program.
Now when again is Microsoft going to buy Yahoo?
